Das Städtebau Quartett | On Possible Futures of Urban Design
On Urban Mobilities
Gregor Stratil-Sauer, MA18, department of city development (Wien)
Aglaee Degros (Rotterdam), Socrates Stratis (Nicosia)
Cooperation between the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Institute for Art and Architecture and Europan Österreich, with a special support of the city of Vienna, hosting the Foundation of the Roland Rainer Chair.
Are we able to install 'Stadtplanung' as a durable cultural formation in order to allow the best possible future for a "city" which has to be established as an arena of radical co-existence?
Is it not necessary to discuss incessantly and without compromise 'Stadtplanung' as a cultural project which has been historically dispelled to the realm of technical disciplines?
Can the 'ambiguous figure' of the architect - the generalist for the context - still act as a mediator between humanities, social sciences and technical engineering?
The STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT is a format of perpetual discussion: It is performed as an open series in English language, aiming to infect Vienna's hyper-ambitious debate about city-planning.
The STÄDTEBAU-QUARTETT is 4 people: Roland Rainer Chair Bernd Vlay (host) welcomes 1 representative of Vienna's planning culture and 2 guests from abroad. The guests will "pro-voke" the debate, putting on the table a hot topic in the international debate of city-planning.
