German Language Courses

I. German language courses offered by the Academy

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna offers German as a Foreign Language classes at different levels within its course program.

Please find more details on the German courses in our online course catalogue in due time AkademieOnline; you can also subscribe to the course there (except for intensive courses in September).

Students in the programs Fine Arts and Scenography are given priority in German courses, as they have to prove German language skills at B1 level or alternatively German at A2 level and additionally the seminar Foreign Languages for Artists (German) by the beginning of the 3rd semester.

II. German intensive course B1.1

To subscribe to the B1.1 intensive course in the last three weeks of September (9.9. - 27.9.2024 | Mo-Fr 6 - 8:15 pm), please send an e-mail (including your name, registration number and study program) to deutsch-lernen@akbild.ac.at during the registration period: 23 August to 4 September 2024.

New students can apply after passing the admission exam or once they have received the confirmation about their place as an exchange student, respectively. Concerning registration, priority is given to students of Fine Arts and Scenography.

III. German self-study & assessment test

Students who prefer to learn German independently can check their language level according to the Common European Framework of References for Languages here: https://www.osd.at/en/the-oesd/profile-deutsch/cefr-levels/

If you learned German through self-study and therefore do not have an accepted certificate, please write to deutsch-lernen@akbild.ac.at to arrange an assessment of your German proficiency on the B1 level. Please understand that the Academy will pay for one test per person only.
