About the program
The Mentoring Program Art is aimed at graduates from all fields of study at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. This one-year scholarship program stands at the intersection between academic study and independent artistic activity, supporting participants in making their initial impact in the art scene. In addition to financial support and participation in practice-oriented workshops, the core aspect of this funding initiative from the Academy is the individualized transfer of knowledge and experience from external mentors from the art and cultural sectors. Thus, participants can gain diverse insights into the art industry and acquire practical knowledge. Additionally, a booklet will be created in which the artistic practices of the scholarship recipients are discussed in texts by renowned authors. Starting in 2023, they will also have the opportunity to participate in an exhibition at the Exhibit Gallery every two years. The program aims to promote emerging artists at the Academy and to ensure equal gender participation in the art field.
The program’s cooperation partner is the Association of Women Artists in Austria (VBKÖ). Since 2020, we have also overseen the Mentoring Program for Female Artists of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service, and Sport (BMKÖS).
Participation in the program is possible through application. The call for applications is published online on the platform annually at the end of the summer semester. The advisory board carries out the selection and assignment of tandems.
