Roland-Rainer-Chair Professorship for architectural design and research
at the Institute for Art and Architecture (IKA). This professorship according to § 99 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) is appointed for a period of 1 year starting in summer term 2009.
In cooperation with the City of Vienna the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:
Roland-Rainer-Chair Professorship for architectural design and
research
at the Institute for Art and Architecture (IKA). This professorship according to § 99 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002) is appointed for a period of 1 year starting in summer term 2009.
The new Roland-Rainer-Chair aims at embedding and further developing Roland Rainer’s ideas and values within the study programs of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and public awareness of his work. The Roland-Rainer-Chair will maintain a productive dialogue with Vienna’s city planning departments and professional and research communities committed to Roland Rainer’s legacy.
The chair will be dedicated to two main areas of education and research:
- Investigating and defining the notion of habitat in order to promote the understanding of intricate relations between urban culture and dwelling.
- Developing urban visions, which address issues of contemporary society and contribute to position architecture and urban planning within a wider political, economic and ecological framework.
Preferred qualifications:
Applicants should be knowledgeable about Roland Rainer’s body of thought and work. Their teaching and research work at the IKA should relate to the platforms of GEOGRAPHY LANDSCAPE CITIES and ECOLOGY SUSTAINABILITY CONSERVATION.
- The applicant must be a qualified architect or urban planner or have equivalent expertise in a related field;
- proof of international achievements through design and/or building practice in the fields;
- proof of teaching qualifications and academic experience;
- leadership skills and willingness to participate in university committees;
- Language: English and/or German
The duties cover teaching at least 12 units a week integrated in the curriculum of the IKA. It also includes collaborating with a research assistant working on the Roland Rainer Archive.
