The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:
University Professor
of textile arts at the Institute for Education in the Arts according to § 98 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002). The duration of this professorship is 6 years, starting in October 2008.
Preferred qualifications:
This professorship covers the supervision of the professional and scholarly education of textile arts students at the Institute for Education in the Arts. The Institute conceives textiles and their mediation as cultural techniques of producing identities, within which fashion communicates with styles of technology, economics, art and everyday
culture. This focus on fashion and the technologies of style is decisive for the textile arts department’s artistic/scientific profile, which concentrates on current and up-and-coming concerns regarding material and everyday visual culture. The candidates’ research and teaching methods and practice are expected to interlink textiles’ contextual aspects with the challenges of transferring them from a scholastic to an adult education context.
Application requirements:
- Excellent academic qualification in textile arts;
- a degree in the field from an Austrian university, equivalent foreign university or a qualification that may be considered equivalent;
- proof of artistic qualification and experience in the field of duties;
- proof of pedagogic and didactic qualification;
- ability to hold a chair and to contribute to developing scholarly work in the arts and sciences by promoting the Academy’s research activities;
- willingness to participate in university committees and to cooperate with colleagues.
The duties cover teaching at least 12 units a week, supervising theses and dissertations and holding the chair of the department at the Institute for Education in the Arts.
