The following position at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is advertised:
Tenure-Track Position
in accordance with § 99 para 5 Austrian University Act 2002 (UG) at the Institute for Education in the Arts (IKL)
for didactics in the fields of material culture and social and ecological sustainability in the study program "Design in Context – Teaching Subject Technical and Textile Crafts", the qualification goal being habilitation or habilitation-adequate achievements (according to §27 KV) for the earliest possible start in full employment. The position is offered for a period of six years.
Areas of responsibility:
• Subject-related, scientific and practice-led research into the social and ecological sustainability of material cultures with focus on the development of subject-related didactic theories, methods and teaching formats for schools (secondary level)
• Future-oriented development of the study program "Design in Context – Teaching Subject Technical and Textile Crafts" in didactic research and teaching
• Research into formats for teaching ecological and social sustainability in secondary schools within the framework of creative teaching, learning and instructional research, perspectives of decolonizing and queer-feminist discourses on design, globalization, migration and sustainability being central to this
• Collaboration with and independent teaching of courses in the amount of 4 SWS and examinations as well as advising students in the field of didactics and teaching
• Development, participation and implementation of (third-party funded) research projects
• Participation in the research agendas and tasks for the development and furthering of the arts at the IKL
• Regular publication activity and conference contributions
• Participation in organizational, administrative and committee tasks as well as in quality control and evaluation measures
Conditions of employment:
• Scientific or design/artistic-scientific doctorate (e.g. art teaching profession, design or art education/didactics, design, fashion, urban studies, social and cultural sciences)
• Proven expertise, national and international publications, projects and research work in one or more reference fields of the study program "Design in Context – Teaching Subject Technical and Textile Crafts" (design, fashion, architecture/urban space, textiles, everyday culture, technology, crafts) and their didactic research
• Specific international experience at relevant art and/or research institutions as well as an independent, internationally recognized practice of an artistic, design or research nature (through cooperation, research or exhibition practice and publications)
• Profile-building for didactics in the context of practice-based design knowledge
• Very good knowledge of current theories, methods and practices of didactics and design teaching
• Proof of having taught courses in the tertiary sector for at least two semesters
• Proof of several years of experience as a secondary school teacher
• Submission of an abstract (max. 10.000 characters) outlining the main focus, research question, and theoretical and methodological references to material culture, sustainability, practice-based knowledge and didactics in the specific subject
• Very good knowledge of German and English
• Gender and discrimination critical competence
• Team player
The monthly gross salary according to the collective agreement for university employees in salary group B1|Post-Doc-Position for full-time employment is currently Euros 3.889,5. After conclusion of a qualification agreement, transfer to the salary group A2 Assistant Professors and after fulfillment of the qualification goals to the group of Associate Professors will follow
