University Professor for Stage Design
The following position at the Institute for Art and Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is to be filled in accordance with Sec 98 UG (University Act) from 1 October 2021:
University Professor for Stage Design
for a term of five years.
We are looking for an artistic personality who is able to represent the focus on stage design in a practical and theoretical examination of staged spaces and contemporary theatre-space concepts in teaching in a multi-layered way.
Knowledge of current discourses of scenography in the theatrical landscape, the performing arts and in their interface competences with other disciplines and media is required.
The examination of new artistic formats and the positioning in the future theatre landscape, taking into account the current challenges facing society as a whole, as well as the ability to jointly develop a new orientation for the institute, are part of the job profile.
Further conditions of employment:
• a completed diploma from an Austrian university or equivalent from a foreign university or equivalent artistic qualification
• proof of international artistic activity
• proof of didactic suitability
• a clear statement on the presentation of one’s own artistic teaching, the reorientation of the institute and a possible positioning of the future scenography in our present time
• willingness to work in university committees (working language German) and a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with the employees. The willingness to move to Vienna in case of an appointment, as well as excellent German and English language skills are required.

The teaching commitments in the current curriculum include courses of at least eight semester hours per week (including individual artistic instruction) in the field of stage design at the Institute of Art and Architecture.
The monthly gross salary according to the collective bargaining agreement for university employees in salary group A1 is currently Euro 5.245,6. Availability to pay more than collective bargaining agreement – depending on qualification profile – is given.
