Alina Sokolova
Alina Sokolova is mentee of Marianne Vlaschits.
Alina Sokolova (*1995 in Uzhgorod/Ukraine) studied fine arts at the National University of Uzhgorod, sculpture and installation at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and photography at the HFBK in Hamburg. In 2021 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
Her artistic practice can be described as an extensive exploration of movement. She is particularly interested in the repetitive gestures of contemporary labor and the mechanization of our everyday lives. She investigates movements that have become commonplace and thereby a testimony to their time. Questions about coexistence and the relationship between humans and animals, as well as themes of leisure, productivity, consumerism, and phenomena of mass choreography in the age of digital media are present throughout her paintings.
In 2020, she was shortlisted for the PinchukArtCentre Prize in Kiev. Her works have already been shown in various group exhibitions in Vienna and in Europe, including the Museum of Western and Oriental Art in Odessa (Ukraine) or the Art Museum in Žilina (Slovakia).
