Art and Image | Figuration

The studio for Art and Image | Figuration (prev. Figurative Painting) offers students a structured framework for an intensive investigation of contemporary art production. Based on the idea and history of figurative painting as a former "key medium" of Modernism, formal, methodical and theoretical approaches in the sense of an expanded concept of art are discussed, thus enabling students to develop their own, individual artistic stance. Together, they will discuss their works and specific exhibitions, read texts and analyze them according to a set of criteria critically linked to artistic-conceptual approaches and referring to the logic of imagery. In recent years, classes were held by Amelie von Wulffen, Birgit Megerle, Silke Otto-Knapp, Henning Bohl, Kirsi Mikkola and Francis Ruyter.
