The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:
University professor
in accordance to § 98 UG 2002 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz, UG 2002) for a full and permanent position in Color Science and Chemistry/Materials Science in the Institute of Natural Sciences and Technology in Art, starting from October 1, 2020.
The Institute for Natural Sciences and Technology in the Arts is responsible for providing students with a theoretical and practice-oriented education in the subjects of color science, theory of perception, materials science, and color chemistry. In addition, we concentrate on the documentation using electromagnetic radiations (e.g. infrared, visible, UV, and X-ray) including digital imaging, non-invasive material analysis of art objects, and exploring the long-term behavior of materials (e.g. their light-stability, corrosion and weathering resistance, and the compatibility of various materials used in modern and contemporary art) as well as deal with the preservation of historical monuments.
The successful candidate shall possess:
- University degree with PhD and Habilitation (post-doctoral qualification) in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, physics, information and computer technology, biology, geology, heritage science etc.
- an internationally recognized track record for research as evidenced by an exceptional publication record in top-ranking journals
- oral presentations and keynote lectures at international conferences in the field of “Heritage Science”
- international cooperation with universities and research institutions
- successful experiences in competing for funding at national and international levels from both public and private funding sources
- experiences in teaching at universities
- a strong commitment to teaching at all levels within the Academy of Fine Arts in “Colour Science and Materials Science in Art” as well as “Heritage Science”, e.g. lectures, labs, supervising diploma, master and PhD theses
- capacity for teamwork and the ability to act as a leader of the institute with its research topics
- willingness to cooperate with the members of the institute as well as for inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation with the institute and collections of the Academy
- very good German and English knowledge

In addition to the letter of application a concept for the development of the institute and further positioning of the subject in research and teaching is expected.
The monthly gross pay according to the collective bargaining agreement for employees of universities in pay group A1 is currently Euro 5,130.2. Salary may be increased contingent upon candidates’ qualifications.
