CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Courses in Gender / Queer Studies

Proposals for Courses in Gender / Queer Studies

for the academic year 2014/2015 at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

should be submitted via e-mail until Wednesday, March 19 th 2014

to the Gender Studies Group (Working Committee on Equal Treatment / Equal Opportunity Network) : a.fleischmann@akbild.ac.at

The proposal should include:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Please indicate if you have taught at university-level before
  • Description of the proposed course in English or German (about 1 page) (the title of the course should be provided in both English and German)
  • Proposed course literature

Courses in gender/queer studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna can be given within all Study Programs: Fine Arts (Painting, Sculpture, Film, Video, Performative Arts, Media, Art in Public Space, Conceptual Art), Scenography, Education in the Arts, Art Theory and Cultural Studies, Architecture, Conservation and Restoration as well as Natural Sciences and Technology in the Arts. It is also possible to propose courses at the intersection with other fields, for example Postcolonial Studies, Racism and Anti-Semitism Studies or courses that focus on performative or bodily practices.

There are two different teaching assignments depending on your teaching experience:

For individuals without teaching experience at university-level:

Autumn Term: you will teach together with a staff member of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

Monthly remuneration: 262,10 Euro, paid seven times

Spring Term: you will teach your own proposed course for two academic hours a week.

Lecture (Vorlesung): Monthly remuneration 402,80 Euro, paid seven times (social security benefits)

or

Seminar / Workshop (Übung): Monthly remuneration 302,40 Euro, paid seven times

For individuals with teaching experience at university-level:

You will teach your proposed course during either Autumn or Spring Term for two academic hours a week.

Lecture (Vorlesung): Monthly remuneration 402,80 Euro, paid seven times (social security benefits)

or

for Seminar / Workshop (Übung): Monthly remuneration 302,40 Euro, paid seven times

Please state if you prefer to give your course in the autumn (October - January) or spring (March - June) term or if both terms would be possible.

For both types of assignments it is possible to teach together with someone at the Academy (team teaching). Please check the respective curriculum and contact your possible colleague(s) in advance. Please note, that in the case of team teaching only half of the remuneration will be paid.

Please note that lectures (Vorlesungen) are research-based scientific courses. The higher remuneration compared to seminars or workshops is based on a higher estimated workload for the teachers: for each academic hour (45 minutes) 90 minutes of preparation and 45 minutes of wrap-up. The teacher is solely responsible for presenting the course - students may be given time for discussion, but larger contributions, e.g. presentations by students, cannot be expected.

Seminars or Workshops (Übungen) can be based on scientific or artistic as well as artistic/scientific issues and methods. In these courses, students are required to contribute substantially in written (papers) and/or oral form (presentations). The estimated workload for teachers is therefore lower: 45 minutes preparation and 45 minutes wrap-up for each academic hour of 45 minutes.

For both types of assignments (with or without teaching experience) it is necessary to hand in a Course Proposal. The quality of your proposal will be the primary selection criteria. The Gender Studies Group tries to select proposals that represent a variety of topics for a broad range of institutes and study programs at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

Assignments will only be given to those individuals, which did not teach a course on the basis of this gender/queer studies program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna ("Frauenspezifische Lehrveranstaltungen") within the last three years.

In accordance with the anti-discriminatory agreement at the Academy (Antidiskriminatorische Betriebsvereinbarung), systematically discriminated groups, that are socially defined as different based on skin colour, (alleged) ethnic origin, nationality, religious beliefs, gender, health status, economic status, (dis-)ability, sexual orientation, deviation from a strict gender dichotomy or age are explicitly invited to submit course proposals. If equally qualified and if possible, proposals of under-represented groups will be prioritized (cf. § 4, Section 5, Lit. c. of the anti-discriminatory agreement).

We are looking forward to your proposals!

Kind regards,

Gender Studies Group/ Working Committee on Equal Treatment
