Panel Discussion on Carolee Schneemann. From Then and Beyond
VFMK and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna are pleased to present a book launch followed by a panel discussion about the life and work of the acclaimed artist Carolee Schneemann.
From Then and Beyond was originally conceived in tandem with an exhibition that took place at the Kunsthalle Winterthur in 2018, curated by Oliver Kielmayer (director) and Lara Pan (independent curator). Along with a rich array of photographs, the book includes extensive recorded testimony by the artist on a wide variety of themes both personal and professional.
The talk will take place in the M20 room at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. After welcoming words by Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein, the following participants will discuss the work and life of Carolee Schneeman in a panel discussion:
Sabine Breitwieser
The independent curator and former director of the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, where in 2015 she organized “Carolee Schneemann: Kinetic Painting“, which traveled to the MMK Frankfurt and to MoMA PS1 New York, will discuss the theme “From Painting to Kinetic Theater.”
Hubert Klocker
The art historian and director of the estate Otto Mühl is an expert on Vienna Actionism. He was a long-time friend of Carolee Schneemann and will reminisce about their collaboration and share his personal vision concerning the artist.
Oliver Kielmayer
The art historian and director of the Kunsthalle Winterthur will talk about the making of the book, his first encounter with Carolee Schneemann, and his personal perspective related to her work.
Lara Pan
The independent curator, writer, and researcher based in New York, whose research focuses on the intersection between art, science, technology, and paranormal phenomena, will discuss Carolee Schneemann’s interest in science and unproven phenomena.
