xposit / One Eighteen. The Alumni Exhibition Series of The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

Curated by Kirsi Mikkola, xposit 18/1 stages a selection of works by students of the Studio of Figurative Painting in the university building in Augasse.

The show is not concerned with attempts to make out artistic positions and assert possible intentions and meanings based on the displayed works but rather with exploring the quality of the process of painting as such, its variety, intensity, and peculiarity.

The works unfold their impact via pictorial criteria such as look and feel, gesture, colors and forms, surfaces, and the different treatment of materials and tools. The complex compilation highlights works from a phase between original, intuitive and creative approach and reflectively artistic production.
