Academic Writing in English at Doctoral Level: interweaving theory, creativity, and practice
This workshop is designed to guide doctoral students at the Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien in their academic writing.
We will discuss and learn from current movements in theory as well as contemporary writing practices. Through reading and writing exercises, analysis and discussion, doctoral students will gain skills and confidence in articulating and theorising their own work, as well as developing their own unique writing voice that blends theory and philosophy with the vividness of creative writing.
In this workshop, we will discuss the ways that diverse projects can be rendered and synthesised in scientific text. We will do some exercises to help with writing flow, framing research questions, developing your own writing voice, brainstorming around ideas and concepts, structuring your writing, and mobilising theoretical concepts with confidence. We will look at some short examples drawn from contemporary theory to give ideas and inspiration for writing that is clear and concise, as well as vivid and alive.
