Sabelo Mlangeni

In recent years, South African artist Sabelo Mlangeni (*1980) has gained attention in the contemporary local art scene and beyond, with his community portraits. He grew up in the province of Mpumalanga, which he left in 2001 to graduate at the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg in 2004.

His first solo show, Invisible Woman , took place at Warren Siebrits, Johannesburg. The series Men Only , Country Girls , Ghost Towns , At Home and No Problem have been shown at Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town and Johannesburg (2009-2015), where he is represented by blank projects, Cape Town. Four work series of Sabelo Mlangeni were shown at the exhibition "Postapart/heid Communities" at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna 2014 (for the catalogue of this exhibition see: https://postapartheidcommunities.wordpress.com ).
