Two guest lectures (in English) followed by Questions and Answers
Organised by Elke Krasny and Barbara Mahlknecht, Studio for Art and Education

Involved Urban Practice explores alliances between art, architecture, education and critical research. The two guest lectures by artist Apichaya Wanthiang and architect/theorist Meike Schalk present examples of new ways of civic engagement, transnational connections, and urban learning under current neoliberal conditions defining global urban transformation processes.

In her lecture, Apichaya Wanthiang presents the idea of Practice Models following research on self-organised artist run educational spaces concerned with modes of working and knowledge exchange structures. With her project Practice Models, Wanthiang works toward establishing a hybrid school in Bangkok Thailand in the future. In her lecture Action Archive: The Witness Seminar, Meike Schalk traces a debate of architecture’s relation to criticality and agency and presents the work of the research group Action Archive in Stockholm pursuing participatory historiography. As a form of collective oral history writing, the witness seminar intends to open new perspectives on past events and thus to enable different futures.

The discussion following the two lectures will focus on the implications and potentials of involved urban practice.
