Vielgeschichtig. 6 Portraits | 31 Conversations | 6 Languages
The exhibition "Vielgeschichtig. 6 Portraits | 31 Conversations | 6 Languages" is one of the outcomes of the art-based research project "synoptic storytelling in a multidirectional Vienna" currently ongoing at the Film and Television Research Laboratory of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, led by Friedemann Derschmidt and financed by the City of Vienna. The project is curated by Alaa Alkurdi, Friedemann Derschmidt, Anne Pritchard-Smith and Karin Schneider, with linguistics support by Nikolaus Wildner. The exhibition showcases the method of the synoptic portrait developed by Friedemann Derschmidt and can be seen at the Haus der Geschichte Austria from October 5, 2023 to February 18, 2024 (opening event on October 4 by registration only).
In addition, the research project is involved in the exhibition "Systemrelevant" (October 5, 2023 to February 18, 2024, opening on October 4) at the Künstlerhaus Vienna.

Dear doctoral candidates,
We hope you have come through the summer well and will arrive just as well in the new semester.
For the upcoming winter semester we would like to inform you about the activities and events of the Center for Doctoral Studies.
Right at the beginning of the semester, on October 9, 2023, there will be a workshop on "Academic Writing in English at Doctoral Level: interweaving theory, creativity, and practice." The workshop will be led by Helen Palmer and is aimed at all doctoral students who would like tips and suggestions on writing their dissertation in English. Registration for the workshop is open until September 25, 2023, and more information can be found here.
Also, there will be an Open Door of the Center for Doctoral Studies in the winter semester. All those who would like to exchange ideas with other doctoral students and colleagues and find out about the offers of the Doctoral Center are cordially invited to drop by on November 21, 2023, starting at 3:00 pm. The study department will also be happy to answer all your questions. You can find more information here. Registration is not required.
If you are interested in submitting an application for the ÖAW DOC Fellowship, you can do so until October 5, 2023. We are happy to support you with your submissions and are available with tips and advice on the program as well as on writing the proposal and other parts of the application.
