The Honorary Prize of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna goes to Sophia Rohwetter (Master in Critical Studies) for her master thesis "Tears of A Clown. The tragic and the comic in the work of Mike Kelley" (IKW). The master’s thesis examines the forms of the tragic and the comic in the work of American artist Mike Kelley (1954–2012) from a psychoanalytic perspective, with particular consideration of the series Half a Man (1987–1991). Emma Hummerhielm Carlén | UNIQA Art Prize 2024
In cooperation with UNIQA, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is awarding the UNIQA Art Prize, which is endowed with €15,000, for the first time. This makes it one of the most highly endowed prizes for young artists in Austria. It goes to Emma Hummerhielm Carlén, a sculptor who is able to explore spaces in an extremely differentiated way and who convinced the jury members with her formally precise, minimal and powerful works. The prize winner's exhibition will open in February 2025 in the foyer of the UNIQA Tower in Vienna.
